Internship Workshop APD NYC 2010
Workshop APD, NYC
I spent three months doing an internship at Workshop APD. I assisted the studio in creating a new architectural builder platform, called Right Frame APD. This tool was created to give people access to architecture, often reserved to an elite.
The platform existed as a tool to help builders create houses at a reasonable price. I created the database, which consisted in selecting all the materials of the houses, colours, and completion. We needed to anticipate all the possibilities.
On the tool, people first chose the shape and the aesthetical aspect of the house, then the plan, depending on the numbers of bedrooms, and bathrooms. Then they were able to choose different forms of kitchens, living rooms… and their completion.
The tool was based on standards that when brought together created a unique house.
It was really interesting to follow each step of the platform construction. I arrived a year after the beginning of the project, thus right in the middle of it all! I really enjoyed working with the Anglo-Saxons. I learned a lot about communication, and teamwork. It was also the opportunity to discover New York, as you can see on my sketchbook.
