All hands volunteers Tacloban 2015
All Hands Volunteers
Reconstruction of the city of Tacloban as a volunteer
The last year, i travelled for 7 months.
Is has been a transforming experience, where I realize the beauty of the world, but also the damage we are creating by our way of life based on consuption.
Last summer, i spent three months helping the ngo All Hands, in Tacloban, rebuilding slams of the city, that has been destroied during the 2013 typhoon.
Is has been the most amazing and intense human adventure of my life !
We were woking 6 dayx per weeks with volunteers from all around the world, ans local workers, amazing and funny people, full of patience !
We were rebuilding houses or public spaces, like learning center, chapel, or playground, to help the community going back to a normal and decent life.
There, i learned working in team, from the discussion with the community, to the architect team, and the local carpenters with the volunteers.
After two months a became team leader on a project of a chapel, where the community, barangay 5§, was doing their meeting. It was 5 weeks of hard work, in the happiness and sharing. I learned a lot about carpentry, building site, paint, wood, and managment in general. I was leading with two others guies 5 local workers, and 5 to 10 volunteers, changing every 3 days. It was a chalenging experience ! And i loved it. We achieve the chapel, thansk to the community, and her everyday support. They were giving food to us, and of course every Saturday the kids were coming to help. We even welcomed Codin, a 73 years old woman, who came everyday to give a hand !
There i also realised how many people live with not even a decent house, which protect them from the rain, or the wind ! They lived in trash, and it felt weird to see how happy and generous they were, while, we european, have everything, and we are afraid of giving anything ! What a lesson !
I really want to continue on path, where i can put my knowledge, my experience for a great cause.
